“Salute: The Historic 1968 Olympics” is a documentary of three men— two Black (Tommie Smith and John Carlos of the United States) and one White Australian (Peter Norman) — who raised gloved hands on Oct. 16, 1968, with fists clenched in a black power salute and bowed their heads in a defining moment in the U.S. Civil Rights Movement: The Black Power Salute.
It is also a moving tribute to their lasting friendship until Norman’s death on October 3, 2006. The documentary was produced by Matt Norman, Peter Norman’s nephew.
