Miller: Rocha ‘an inspiring breath of fresh air’

The articles by Michael Ndubissi and Ilyne Castellanos in this issue were outstanding.  Anthony Rocha is an inspiring breath of fresh air, a young man who looks at the big picture creatively.  It was inspiring to me that his mother got a GED and raised such an active, forward-thinking son——especially because I had worked at the Salinas Adult School and saw other men and women take advantage of the opportunity to get an education, no matter what their age or history.

As an active member of the League of Women Voters of Monterey County, I would like to offer our cooperation on any civic engagement activities where our experience may be of help.  As a run-up to November’s election last year, we helped high school and college students around the county pre-register and register to vote, and provided resources on the ballot propositions.  Interacting with young people and hearing their concerns, despite being in a pandemic, was great.
BTW, our LWV will probably be focussing on topics like redistricting, affordable housing, water, and the criminal justice system in the coming year, so it those topics are of interest to young people, we would love their input or questions.
