Ricketts’ Lab open July 27

The 3rd of 4 Cannery Row Foundation’s annual open hours of Ed Ricketts’ Pacific Biological Laboratories (PBL) will be held on Saturday, July 27.  The open hours are scheduled at 10:00 am, Noon and 2:00 pm and each session will last 2 hours. Limited reservations are now being accepted and can be made at tours@canneryrow.org.  Reservations will be confirmed by return e-mail.  Though emails are preferred, visitors may also call 831-917-1937 for additional information. Only 15 visitors per session are allowed inside the rarely-opened historic building.

The featured topic will be Harlan Watkins and the Men’s Group, who purchased the PBL from Harlan on July 23, 1956.  A brief introduction and welcome will be followed by talks of the Early History of 740 Ocean View, the Front Room of the PBL, the Party Room – Men’s Club PBL and the Downstairs Outside and Inner Laboratory areas.

A donation of $15 or more to the Cannery Row Foundation by cash or check may be made at the entrance.  Since 1983, the Cannery Row Foundation has helped to support the research on, and exhibition of, Cannery Row’s famous historic, literary and ecological legacies.

Guests are encouraged to bring cameras, dress in layers and enjoy a rare opportunity to be inside the Lab for sessions by historians and scientists. Some refreshments will be available, usually donated by Austino’s.
