Brattan: Grey Bears bookstore still going strong

Thanks for your thoughtful piece, “Read all about it” in Your Voices on the demise of local bookstores and the opening of Downtown Book & Sound in Salinas. I thought it important to let your readers know that Grey Bears on Chanticleer Avenue in Santa Cruz has operated a used bookstore and filled an important role especially since Logos closed.

Run by a team of dedicated volunteers, the Grey Bears Bookstore is diverse and has titles organized by genre and author. Most books are just $1.50 each with young readers and children’s book for less. Customers on the more voracious reader side can fill a bag of books every Monday and Friday for just $10.

Grey Bears bookstore is a jewel for readers of all ages, open every day 10am-3pm.

We rely on donations of books, household items, electronics, e-waste/electronics/TVs, Styrofoam (EPS#6) and more at our thrift store donations and recycling center, 2710 Chanticleer Ave, Santa Cruz 95065. The donations center is open every day for drop-offs, 7:30-3:30. More info at www.greybears.org, or call 831-479-1055.

Thanks!
