High School Writing Contest Launches in February

Deadline for submissions to a writing contest for juniors and seniors attending Monterey County high schools is Feb. 28.

Winners of the contest, sponsored by the Central Coast Writers organization, will win up to $300. Teachers of the top three winners will also receive $50.

Entrants are asked to use a photograph of an abandoned mansion, posted at centralcoastwriters.org, as their writing “prompt.”

The contest is open to all seniors and juniors enrolled in public or private high schools and homeschool programs in Monterey County. There is no entry fee. Winners will be selected based on quality of writing, story development and writing mechanics.

Winners will be announced on April 1. For more information and official rules, see centralcoastwriters.org.
