Monterey County Art Champions Event on Feb. 3

The Arts Council presents their 13th Annual Champions of the Arts Gala – Saturday, February 3, 2018 – honoring beloved producer and director Walt deFaria for Lifetime Achievement and Ellen Martin, Executive Director of First Night Monterey as Luminary. They also present honors to Ramon Silva Ruelas / Volunteer Leader, Andrew Jackson / Professional, Sol Treasures / Nonprofit, Angelica Muro / Educator and Reg Huston / Philanthropist.

The Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel and Spa hosts the gala for the first time this year. The event opens with a reception at 5 pm with a silent auction of fine art, fine wine and fantastic gifts followed by a gourmet dinner, live auction and awards presentations. KSBW News Anchor Erin Clark returns to M.C. and there are special music performances throughout the evening – including Blue Clay – a teen jazz trio led by David Sanchez, Guitars Not Guns, David Holodiloff Ensemble and Jayson Fann World Music Ensemble. Among the highlights are video valentines to the Champions.

“We had nearly 400 guests last year and we are well on track to have a full house once again! Our guests love Champions – the atmosphere is both elegant and electric! Our team is ready for a spectacular gala and we have several surprises in store,” notes event chair Lavonne Chin.

“Our mission is to improve the quality of life for everyone in Monterey County through the arts. We take a comprehensive approach – with grants, consulting, training and public awareness. Each year we find more and more scientific studies that show us the arts are the answer – from helping youth, veterans and others find new pathways toward greater health to helping businesses and business districts find new ways to become more vibrant and welcoming!” notes executive director Paulette Lynch. “Champions of the Arts has become a great way to showcase extraordinary examples. The vision, talent, passion and dedication our Champions inspire us all to get even more involved in our communities through the arts,” she adds.

All proceeds benefit youth arts education – supporting teaching artist residencies in schools and community centers throughout Monterey County. Tables for 10 can be reserved for $1500 including preferred seating and complimentary recognition as table host.
