World Affairs Council of Monterey Bay: “Meteorology, Oceanography, and National Security
Speaker: Dr. Jim Hansen, Superintendent Marine Meteorology Division
Tucked behind the Monterey Fairgrounds is a compound that houses a world-class
atmospheric research organization that develops cutting edge forecast and
decision making products for the U.S. Navy. It also houses the command responsible
for operationally providing uninterrupted numerical weather prediction guidance
to Navy war fighters regardless of the geopolitical situation. This compound is home
to the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory directed by our guest, Dr. Jim Hansen, SES.
