City Seeks Community Input on Bike Share Station Locations
SANTA CRUZ — The City of Santa Cruz invites the community to provide input on Bike Share station locations through an interactive online map, available Nov. 1–10 at https://sc.jumpmobility.com/. The upcoming Bike Share program will provide affordable short-term bike rentals for quick trips within City limits and bring a new transportation option to the community.
Bike Share is a partnership between the City of Santa Cruz and Social Bicycles. Launching in March 2018, it will provide 250 on-demand 8-speed bicycles for use by Santa Cruz residents and visitors at a cost of $2 per 30 minutes of riding.
The launch of the online map builds on input received during four outreach events. Earlier this month City staff hosted community forums at Gault and Bayview elementary schools, and participated in Fall Bike to Work Day and Santa Cruz Open Streets events. Several hundred participants provided input, generating more than 80 location suggestions. The outreach process will result in the selection of 25 to 30 station locations.

Bike Share is part of the Go Santa Cruz initiative – the City’s ongoing effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and play an active role in addressing the issue of climate change. Go Santa Cruz promotes numerous transportation options within the City of Santa Cruz and encourages residents to try biking, walking, carpooling and transit for their daily trips. Go Santa Cruz includes the City’s ongoing work to expand bike and pedestrian facilities and also provides education and encouragement, increases transportation options and leverages partnerships with other transportation agencies.
