VOMB and SUP come together again to interview Chris Barrera, a political newcomer who aspires to become Salinas’ next mayor. Barrera joins a crowded field of five candidates that also includes former City Councilwoman Kimbley Craig, civil rights advocate and videographer Wes White, retired principal Ernesto González and businessman Michael Lipe. Both Barrera and Craig were interviewed this weekend, and the conversation with Craig will be available soon.

Claudia Meléndez Salinas and Salinas Underground founder Oz Lucero are on a roll. Together, they have interviewed Salinas City council candidates Carla Viviana Gonzales, Anthony Rocha, and Monterey County supervisorial candidates Steve McShane and Wendy Root Askew. In the pipeline: Orlando Osornio, Vanessa Robinson, and more.

In his interview with the SUP-VOMB squad, Barrera said he’s always thought of following in the footsteps of his father, the late Soledad City Councilman Ted Barrera. He has recently been active with a LULAC local council, where he has coordinated many food drives during the pandemic.
