The Lyceum of Monterey will hold its Seventh Annual Model High School United Nations event for high school students from Carmel, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Stevenson, York, Bellermine, and Santa Catalina high schools on Saturday October 26, 2019. The keynote speakers will be Lisa Martin Director of Model UN Impact and Kathryn Odea of Save Our Shores. They will address the students at 9:00 AM in the Irvine Auditorium on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13:
“To take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.” Climate change is occurring at rates much faster than anticipated its effects are felt worldwide. We believe that today’s youth are our best defense in this growing global threat. Student delegations at this year’s conference will explore the issue of climate change through three distinct lenses. It is our ultimate hope that all conference participants will feel empowered to make an impact in climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts, starting right here at home in Monterey County.
The public is invited to the opening (9:00 AM) and closing (2:30 PM) sessions. There will be plenty of photo and interview possibilities before and after simulated UN Sessions. Press is welcome to observe and photograph the committee sessions.
