Santa Cruz Earth Day celebration April 20

SANTA CRUZ, CA — The community is invited to celebrate the environment at Earth Day Santa Cruz 2019 on Saturday, April 20, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at San Lorenzo Park. Sponsored and organized by the City of Santa Cruz, County of Santa Cruz and Ecology Action, this free annual event includes fun-filled youth activities, live music, educational and green retail booths, and a wide variety of food and beverages.

Annual festival favorites include a free rock-climbing wall, tumbling, Discretion Brewery beer garden, arts and crafts, face painting, and interactive environmental passport with Mission Hill Creamery coupon award. There will be music by SambaDá and Mother Song, Electric Vehicle Showcase with e-bike test rides and Discretion Brewery beer garden.

City of Santa Cruz tables with interactive games and activities will include Waste Reduction, Parks and Recreation, Santa Cruz Public Libraries and Climate Action where attendees can contribute to a community vision for a climate resilient future coast.

The City’s Street Smarts program will feature Chipper, the California Highway Patrol chipmunk, and Santa Cruz Warriors mascot Mav’Riks teaching best traffic safety behavior with reflective wristbands and bike reflectors for participants. Graduates of the City’s 2018 and 2019 Master Recyclers program will assist visitors with recycling activities and questions.

Earth Day Santa Cruz 2019 is a Zero Waste event; it is recommended that visitors bring reusable shopping bags and water bottles. Free drinking water is provided by Pure Water of Santa Cruz and free bike valet parking by Bike Santa Cruz County.
