Purpose: The historical development of community organizing by South County Chicana/Latina/Mexicana women had a great influence.
Come hear the stories of the many Latinas who worked for social change in Watsonville. These activities led to the interest, support, and promotion of the MALDEF redistricting lawsuit with Cruz Gomez. Learn the best view of history by hearing first hand from these women who worked in Watsonville to bring about a change to inequities.
This organizing laid the groundwork for the Southwest Voter Registration campaign (SVREP) and eventually the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) redistricting lawsuit.
