Our Future Young writers voice their concerns and hopes

| YOUNG VOICES MEDIA PROJECT

By Claudia Meléndez Salinas

Our Future is a project of the California Youth Media Network to explore stories that are of interest to young people and their interests or concerns for the future.  When the question was posed to the young reporters of Voices of Monterey Bay (Isaac González Díaz, Andrea Valadez, and Fe Aguilar), what became obvious was the concerns for the environment and people.

Two stories are focused on the environment, one from a global perspective and the role and responsibilities corporations have in protecting the environment (thanks, Andrea) and one from a local perspective and how pesticides damage not only the environment but also the people who work in close contact with them (go, Fe).

The people are reflected in the pesticides story and the Dreamers story by Isaac. Also, Andrea did double duty with a profile on Lupita Cruz, a child of immigrants who’s redefining what activism means.

Our Future is a collaborative project that includes content from young journalists from Boyle Heights Beat, Coachella Unincorporated, The Contra Costa Pulse, The kNOw,  Tower of Youth, Voices of Monterey Bay, and YR Media

This is the second time the Young Voices Media Project receives the opportunity to participate with the California Youth Media Network in its annual project. Our reporters helped produce You’re Not Alone in 2022.
